Forensics Word
of the Day

Learn the terms of forensic science,
one day at a time.

Chain Of Custody

A system used to keep track of who handles a piece of evidence and why. Every link in the chain is documented, from the discovery of the item at the crime scene, right through to court. If the chain of custody is broken at any point, the evidence is inadmissible, and therefore useless.
